It’s been over 40 years since the Helfin Financial Services Group was established. The company is now at the forefront of the financial industry, but like most leading businesses it came from humble beginnings.

In 1976 Mike Papageorge had an idea - to start a company that provides quality financial services to the community. He had completed his B.Com degree at Unisa and his MBA, with his thesis on medical funding in South Africa when, together with his wife Elli, he founded Helfin.

As the years progressed, the company expanded into the Helfin Group, which consists of a long term, life and investment company known as Helfin Private Wealth and a short term advisory company styled Helfin Risk Management Co.

Their hard work paid off and in 2009 Helfin was adjudged to be one of the top four advisory practices in the country.

The company continues to grow, but their core values are still strongly influenced by their family business roots, bringing passion and integrity into everything they do.

The challenges of managing leave

As Helfin continues to grow, managing leave in an easy and efficient way has become necessary. At first the company was using spreadsheets monitored by HR but as the team expanded there was an increased need for a system that would allow for no errors and offer a time saving alternative.

“At any time someone could make a mistake and that would mean a lot of time tracking back where the error occurred,” the Marketing Executive said.
